Capability

A Capability describes what a Model or system makes possible for a user or problem domain. It focuses on the result or function provided rather than prescribing how it is realized.

SimpleModeling treats Service as one kind of Capability. CBD Support extracts the small number of Capabilities that are not adequately represented by Services into an internal review-support Model and manages their mappings to Use Cases, the Object Model, CML, and implementation. Developers examine the proposed mappings and evidence during review rather than manipulating Capability directly.

Capability and Service are not synonyms. Service is a primary concrete form of Capability, while Capability may also describe an effect independently of how it is realized or exposed. Its CBD Support representation exists for review and traceability and is not treated as a CML element or public API that developers edit directly.
