Definition

A tangible result or artifact produced by activities to provide evidence of an Alpha’s state. Examples include documents, models, code, or other verifiable outputs.

SimpleModeling

Includes SmartDox, Cozy documents, and generated artifacts as integral parts of the process evidence.

Each Work Product is realized or represented by one or more Artifacts. Artifacts embody the tangible form of Work Products and may extend beyond process evidence into long-term knowledge assets. Conversely, not all Artifacts correspond to Work Products — only those managed as process evidence are included within this framework.

Essence

Defined in OMG Essence as a kernel element that captures the evidence of an Alpha’s state. The relationship between Alpha and Work Product forms the core of process assessment and progress validation.

Example

Examples include “Requirements Specification” representing the Alpha “Requirements,” or “System Architecture Document” representing the Alpha “System.”
